Guide to Miami

Miami, FL Apartments for Rent

With glittering skyscrapers appearing to rise straight out of the clear blue water and palm trees everywhere you look, the city of Miami is a dreamlike combination of a modern metropolis and a tropical paradise. Located on the southeast tip of Florida, Miami is considered a powerhouse as a major center for commerce, education, culture, and entertainment, as well as one of America’s cleanest cities. Miami is also considered one of the richest cities in the nation: multi-million dollar oceanfront villas, colossal yachts, swanky nightclubs, and exotic sports cars have become part of the very fabric of the city, although the local population represents folks from all walks of life.

Aside from mountain climbing and snow skiing, there isn’t much you can’t do in Miami. This is a warm-weather paradise with superb beaches just minutes away from anywhere in town. Bal Harbour Beach is a quiet, pristine beach lined with elegant condos, charming boutiques, and unique bistros. North Beach is also a quiet spot – unless there’s a concert going on at North Beach Bandshell, which hosts a variety of concerts year-round. South Beach is known as a major party beach for good reason. This beach is hopping, and so is the famous Ocean Drive nearby.

After a day at the beach, it’s time to hit the area’s wildly diverse bars, lounges, and dance clubs. You can enjoy a Latin-themed bar, an exclusive high-end club, a friendly open-air tiki, old-fashioned and glitzy lounges, sports bars, and casual beachside hangouts. Once you’ve found a great Miami apartment, you’ll want to go where the locals go – be sure to check out Abbey Brewing Company or Mac’s Club Deuce.

Of course, Miami isn’t all beaches and nightlife. This is an art and culture hub, with a variety of museums and theaters. Be sure to visit Vizcaya Museum and gardens, a stunning location that includes several art collections. Catch world-class performances at the New World Center, the Olympia Theater, the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

If all of that isn’t enough to keep your days and nights in Miami full, there are also sports – Miami is home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, the NBA’s Miami Heat, and MLB’s Miami Marlins. If you prefer college football, the Miami Hurricanes also play at Sun Life Stadium. And, while it may seem out of place in South Florida, Miami also hosts an ice hockey team – the Florida Panthers.

This city of endless amusements also has a serious side: Downtown Miami has one of the nation’s largest concentrations of international banks, several research institutions, and the Port of Miami, a major cargo and passenger cruise port. The University of Miami, located in Coral Gables, is one of the nation’s top research universities.

Downtown Miami is on the east side of the city and includes the areas of Virginia Key, Watson Island, and Brickell. The West Side is home to Little Havana and West Flagler. North Miami includes Midtown, a funky artist-heavy area and beautiful homes dating to the 1920s. One of the most-recognized neighborhoods is Coconut Grove, a charming village defined by sidewalk cafes, art galleries, a farmer’s market, historic sites, and a definite bohemian flair – in fact, it is known as “Bohemia on the Bay.” Aventura is a shopper’s paradise, home to the nation’s second-largest shopping center, the Aventura Mall. The Design District, north of midtown, is a collection of high-end boutiques, more than 130 art galleries, and some of Miami’s most famous restaurants.

Why Miami?

  • Hip nightlife with international dance clubs
  • Fascinating architecture including an Art Deco district
  • Cruise capital of the world
  • “America’s Cleanest City” for clean water, air and recycling programs
  • Wealth of restaurants offering diverse international cuisine
  • One of the world’s richest cities and international banking center
