Guide to

Louisville

Louisville, KY Apartments for Rent

Louisville -- with its Kentucky bluegrass and dazzling views of the Ohio River -- is as beautiful as it is iconic. Founded in 1778 and named for King Louis XVI of France, Louisville is one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachian Mountains. The city is famous for the Louisville Slugger, bourbon, and the Kentucky Derby. It's the largest city in the state, and it is also a college town -- home to the University of Louisville.

Churchill Downs, built in 1875, is a National Historic Landmark. It is home to the Kentucky Derby Museum, which features a 360-degree cinema documenting the derby. The actual horserace is exciting, but the weeks leading up to the event are just as thrilling. The Kentucky Derby Festival features the nation's largest fireworks display called Thunder Over Louisville, the Great Balloon Race, and the Great Steamboat Race. The festival also includes wine tastings, fashion shows, concerts, a parade, and a marathon.

Louisville is an exciting place to live, even when the Kentucky Derby isn't the main attraction. Downtown's West Main Historic District contains some of the city's oldest buildings. The Louisville Zoo is a great destination, known for its award-winning Gorilla Forest. After you rent an apartment in Louisville, you'll be able to take a cruise on the Belle of Louisville, explore the Whiskey Row Historic District, attend events at the Kentucky International Convention Center and the KFC Yum! Center, and go shopping at Fourth Street Live. Other great destinations include the Thomas Edison House, Tom Sawyer State Park, and Kentucky Kingdom.

Why Louisville?

  • Cheering on the horses at Churchill Downs during the Kentucky Derby!
  • The University of Louisville, the Speed Art Museum, and the Muhammad Ali Center.
  • The Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory — the official baseball bat of the MLB.
  • Enjoying the beautiful Victorian houses that fill historic Old Louisville.
  • Louisville is a stunning riverfront city with more than 2,500 restaurants and shops.
  • Hiking the more than 30 miles of trails in the large Jefferson Memorial Forest.
