Kansas City's farmer's market has existed since the city was founded in 1857, and it continues to be very popular today. It is one of the largest farmer's markets in the midwest. The market is open year-round, and there are over 30 merchants who sell their wares there full-time. Plenty of other vendors come to the market on a seasonal basis to sell everything from fresh produce to locally made artisanal goods.

Irish culture is also huge in Kansas city. It has the largest number of Irish-Americans in the midwest, with around 250,000 people. This community has its own stores, newspaper, bands and museum. Weather in Kansas City, MO

Kansas City is positioned at the geographic center of the nation. It is also located where the Missouri and Kansas rivers collide. Though the city does have four distinct seasons, most of the year has fairly mild weather throughout the year. Summer and winter do have the potential for extremes in hot and cold weather, but these periods are usually fleeting. July is the hottest month of the year, with temperatures averaging in the low 80's, while January is the coldest month of the year, with temperatures averaging in the low 30's. There is sometimes snow, but it usually doesn't stay on the ground long, or accumulate very much. There is typically just enough for the kids to get out and enjoy making a snowman or enjoy throwing some snowballs, and once in a while, they will be lucky enough to get a "snow day" from school.

Of larger interest is Kansas City's location at the outer edge of the midwest's Tornado Alley. This area experiences frequent tornadoes, as the name would suggest. There are occasionally severe tornado outbreaks in the metropolitan area of Kansas City, though these usually come decades apart. The most recent was in 2003, and the one before that was in 1957. The city's proximity to the Missouri River and the Kansas River also means it is subjected to occasional flooding, with the two most recent floods being in 1993 and 1951, respectively.
